Andrea: Two titles? It‘s a huge honor

This Year’s U.S. Openhas become unforgettable for Andrea Hlavackova. Although in the singles she did not get through the qualification for the main competition, what meant decline in the half of the second hundred in the WTA ranking, the titles in the women’s and mixed doubles surpassed everything.

How would you rate this year’s Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows?
The finals in women’s doubles was a wonderful ending of two successful weeks in New York. Still I cannot believe that I’ve just managed to get two Grand Slam titles at the U.S. Open. Huge thanks belongs to my partners Lucie Hradecka and Max Mirnyi. I couldn‘t do it without them.

Have you looked into who has already managed to win two titles at once at Flushing Meadows?
I asked for it and according to the records Cara Black reached that in 2008 and seven years before Rennae Stubbs. Before that you can find in the records that Martina Navratilova managed it in 1980s, who won in doubles and singles. It is huge honor to be among such elite.

Can you describe more your feeling from the finals match of women’s doubles against Asleigh Barty and Cassey Dellacqua from Australia, which you won 6:7, 6:1, 6:4.
We started very nervously, I didn’t feel very good on the court, but after the first set I thought: We lost in the tie-break, although we don’t play good, so maybe it will be better. And so it happened, in the second set we prepared more chances thanks of our active play and got Australian down.

Therefore it was deciding at the end of the third set.
It reminded a quarterfinals in the Wimbledon a lot, but with the opposite ending. Australian kept service very well which we managed to break through, but then immediately we didn’t manage the Lucy’s service. Fortunately we had an amazing game on the returns during the score 4:4, gained a leading and I started to serve. I really really believed myself, we confirmed it with no losing of any points during last game and we could finally start to celebrate. I wish everyone to feel these feelings at least once in a life.

This year you didn’t do well, Lucie Hradecka had some injuries, so even in women’s doubles you didn’t play so often with Lucie. Do you have better mood after U.S. Open?
Absolutely! It is beautiful that we can say about the season 2013 that each of us has two Grand Slam’s titles more. I took both of them in New York. Lucie won then in Paris in mixed doubles. But we can say it generally about the Czech tennis. I congratulate lot our juniors on victory the women’s doubles at the U.S. Open and of course I also congratulate Radek Stepanek on the men’s doubles title!

Did you have some time for celebration?
Practically not at all. I immediately moved to Quebec, where we will play on Monday with Lucie the opening round of the doubles against pair Sofia Arvidsson, Staphanie Dubois. In singles I will play on Wednesday against Anastasia Rodionova from Australia. I send greetings to all my fans and I hope that they will continue to keep their fingers crossed. I feel thei support at the tournaments and also on Facebook and thank you all so much for congratulations!
